Audience Research - Consumption

What I learnt from creating this video:

Question 1: The answers to this question suggested that all of music listening is through laptops and phones. This is an easy way of sharing music between friends and makes listening portable. This also means people can watch videos at the same time as listening to music.

Question 2: This question shows that variety of genres that audiences explore. They seem very open to exploring new genres and mixing genres. This means that you can appeal to a very wide audience when creating a video and try to capture the interest of many different people.

Question 3: This question tells us that we should try to focus on capturing an audiences attention by using the narrative of the song. We could explore cinematography to include colour and an effective mood. Another feature we could explore is breaking out of stereotypes, for example girls with little clothes, and creating a new way of looking at young people that relates to the song. Linking to the lyrics is something that we should focus on when creating ideas for our videos.

Question 4: Many people watch music videos for entertainment. This means we must try hard to create something that is entertaining and creates a buzz around the song, in order for people to share it with their friends.

Question 5: Many music videos carry a strong connection between the video and the song message. This is something that creates a successful video. However people in our questionnaire have said that some randomness within a video could be interesting and eye catching, giving them something to figure out in their head about the message of the song.

Question 6: We found that many people would not download a music video, meaning that their main focus is one off watching online. This means that our videos must carry features that are interesting and capture the audiences attention in order for them to want to watch it again. A video usually assists with sales of a song, therefore it is something that helps people to download the song, but not the video itself. I think this is why it is important for the video to link to the song itself.

Question 7: The answer to this question depends on what the song is like, however something out of the ordinary is something that could capture audiences attention.
